Rocking in the Free World
he Chesterfield Kings were a local band that toured internationally on a regular basis. In 1999, they asked me to help them shoot their own independent full-length movie. I was promoted from Cameraman to Director after my second night of working with them. The resulting product premiered at the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in 2000 and played internationally in the weeks following. Shortly after that, they were signed to Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records label and I was asked to shoot another video for them which received airplay on European video stations. This was the first video release on a major label and can be seen below.
The King’s Xmas shows were always huge productions, and in 2004 they asked me to do a multicam shoot for a straight to DVD release. Unfortunately, the line-up changed and the project was shelved. A few rough draft versions of songs have made it out to the web, one of which is below.
